Braves Win 10th Game In a Row
The Braves are continuing to impress after a 9-2 win against the Marlins today. It was another great pitching performance from both the bullpen and the starter, Tommy Hanson. Tommy went 4.2 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, and 2 walks. He also struck 2. Our bullpen pitched 4.1 giving up and only gave up 1 walk and no hits while striking out 4. Josh Johnson was the starter for the Marlins and he had pitched a great game as well, but saw the bullpen blow it. He went 3 innings and gave up 3 hits, 1 walk, and 1 run.
Freeman, Francoeur, Infante, and Schafer all had 2-hit games. Obviously Francoeur was the best news since he had been pretty hot lately and has improved his average to .280. Today he went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. I think he is starting to find his grove again. The new stance is working.

The Braves will play the Cardinals at 1:05 ET tomorrow. Kenshin Kawakami is scheduled to start.
Chipper Jones is looking to play Saturday for the U.S.
Javier Vazquez is scheduled to pitch for Puerto Rico against the U.S. as well.
Braves and U.S. Win; Chipper Hurt
Sorry I’m a little late, but the Braves beat the Phillies while U.S. came back to beat Venezuela.
To recap the Braves game…
We had Tommy Hanson on the mound and he pitched solid yet again. Hanson really should start off in Atlanta. He has completely dominated since Spring Training began. He went 4 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 run against the World Champions. He also struck out SEVEN (7) batters. That’s unbelievable. The kid has some serious talent and needs to stay at this level.
Brandon Jones was the only other noticeable player going 2-4 with a run scored.
The final score was 7-2

In the U.S. game, Chipper was the only Brave playing as McCann was taking a rest. Chipper had another bad day as he went 0-3 with 2 Strikeouts. He also felt discomfort so he might miss the next U.S. game. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. The U.S. beat Venezuela 15-6.

Panama
Concepcion Rodriguez went 0-4 with a strikeout.
Yeliar Castro pitched 2 innings giving up 3 hits, 3 runs, 1 home run, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts.
Venezuela
Gregor Blanco had a great day going 3-5 with an RBI, 1 run scored, 1 triple, and a stolen base against the U.S.
The
Braves are playing an inter-squad game today. Tomorrow we play the Astros with
Derek Lowe scheduled to pitch the first four innings.
Notes:
- The Braves pitching has yet to allow a Home Run yet this spring (not counting inter-squad games).
- They are tied with the Pirates for first place in the Grapefruit League.

Braves beat Panama; U.S. beat Yankees in Early Spring Training Exibitions
Braves beat the Panama national team 11-2 behind a strong start from Tommy Hanson. The top-10 prospect struck out 3 over 3 innings and allowed 2 hits and a walk. The only run that was scored was an unearned one because of a Kelly Johnson throwing error. The pitching looked like this

Because Chipper, McCann, and Blanco were playing for their countries, we had to adjust, and we did fine with that. We had many of are young players coming in the game once we had a comfortable lead. Our other star prospect Jason Heyward hit his first Spring Training homer in the 8th. Here are some of the batting stats

We also had Concepcion Rodriguez and Yeliar Castro playing for Panama. They are in our farm. Rodriguez went 1-4 with a run and Castro pitched 2.1 innings allowing 1 run, 2 hits, and 2 walks.
In the U.S.-New York game, we had McCann going 0-3 and Chipper going 1-2 with a walk and a run. The U.S. ended up winning that game by a close score of 6-5.
Gregor Blanco went 0-1 playing with Venezuela.
The Braves will have a tough challenge ahead of them tomorrow as they face the Yankees. It should be a great game.
Odd Man Out?
As you know, the Braves signed Kenshin Kawakami and Derek Lowe this week. Recently, I learned from David O’Brien about Tim Hudson’s option
Almost forgot to mention this: I asked about Hudson’s option today,
and found out it’s not a mutual option, but a club option. Yes, they
fully intend to exercise it, barring some unexpected turn of events.
That would give the Braves potentially one of the most formidable
rotations in baseball, featuring five from this group: Hudson, Lowe,
Jurrjens, Vazquez, Kawakami and Hanson.
- David O’Brien
Just imagine this rotation. Hudson, Lowe, Jurrjens, and 2 pitchers out of Vaquez, Kawakami, and Hanson. That is amazing. Campillo would go back to the bullpen and one of the players in the rotation would have to get moved. There could be a chance we move one of them to the bullpen or use them in a trade, but who knows what would happen. We might even go to a 6 man rotation. There are so many things that could happen. I don’t think Hanson or Jurrjens will go back to the minors and Hudson’s option will get picked up. Who knows what will happen. There is a chance that Hanson isn’t as good as we thought, Kawakami doesn’t pan out, Hudson can’t come back after TJ surgery, or Jurrjens was a fluke last year. Anything could happen, so I am pretty sure that we will keep all of them. If one gets injured, then we have plenty of options to replace him.
I can guarantee that Morton or Reyes or even both will be gone after this season or the next. Parr and Campillo will be in the bullpen after this year. They just couldn’t make it in the rotation. I can’t imagine that Soriano will be with us after next year either. We have just completely loaded our rotation and rotation that we have to get rid of some. Good thing Chuck James left after being nontendered because there is no way he could have made this years rotation or the next, even if he went back to the 11 win man.
I am predicting that we go with a 6 man rotation with Campillo and Parr moving to the bullpen, Reyes will get traded and we will keep Morton, and Soriano will leave after this year in Free Agency. Next year the outfield will be like this with Frenchy, Anderson, Schafer, Hernandez, Blanco, possibly Jones, Heyward, Diaz, and Brandon Jones.

Hanson was in line for the win but…
Well as most know, Phoenix beat Mesa in the championship. Hanson was starting for Mesa and went strong for 5 innings only allowing 1 run on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 8. Right when he left (pitch count too high) Mesa’s bullpen allowed 9 runs. Unbelievable. Mesa only put up 4 runs and not much went right for them except for Hanson. Out of the 3 Braves hitters playing, Flowers went 0-4 with a field error, allowed one stolen base, and caught one stealing, Matt Young went 1-5 with 3 strikeouts, and Van Pope went 1-4 with a double, a run, and 2 strikeouts.
On a good note, Flowers led the league in Home runs. Hanson also won the Triple Crown, leading the league in ERA, strikeouts, and wins. Hanson will also most likely win the MVP award for the AFL having a lights-out season. Flowers will probably receive MVP consideration, but he will come in 5th or 6th.
Hopefully we can get Hanson in the majors as soon as possibly, but not rush him like Morton or Reyes. Flowers might be in the majors in the ’10 season.
Atlanta Prospects Stay Hot in Arizona
Well another start for Tommy Hanson and another win.
Hanson went strong for 5 shutout innings on Monday only allowing 2 walks and 1 hit while striking out 10. This has been amazing partly because almost everyone has over a .300 average in the league. Hanson now leads the league in Wins (5) ERA (0.63) and Strikeouts (49) and that would be all triple crown stats. Congrats Tommy.
Flowers is also on fire and has homered in 3 straight games and hit his league leading 12th on Monday as well. He went 3-4 with a homer, 3 runs, 3 RBIs, and a walk. He has a .394 average.
Matt Young went 1-5 with 2 runs, a walk, and a strikeout. He is hitting .363.
Van Pope showed that he could replace Chipper if he retires soon by going 3-3 with a Grand Slam, 4 RBIs, 1 run, and 2 walks. He is hitting .286.
Let the Games Begin!
Well the Free Agent Market reopened today and this is where all the excitement is. There are a few names out there that the Braves are looking at.
Burnett, Lowe, Dempster, Tazawa, Furcal and Renteria(depends on Peavy deal), Sheets, and Garland.
Former Braves in the FAM that the Braves might bring back: Smoltz, Norton, Ohman, and Smoltz.
Although the outfield may be covered by prospects (Schafer and Anderson), Wren might find one through trade with Ankiel, Ordonez, Ludwick, and Andruw Jones the most likely. In the FAM, there is also Dunn, Burrell, and Ibanez.
Look for a surprise trade as well or a trade to get rid of players such as Diaz, Thorman, Miller, Acosta, and a couple of smaller prospects.
Sabathia, Tex, and Ramirez ARE NOT gonna become Braves so stop thinking about it now. If the Braves get the Peavy deal done and sign Burnett or Lowe, then expect them to resign either Hampton, Glavine, or a 2nd tier pitcher. If Glavine retires, Hampton goes elsewhere, and there is not good FA available, expect Parr, Morton, Reyes, or Hanson to get called up. Campillo is most likely a starter next year so it will be a

11-12 What a day for Mesa and the Braves!!
It was a grand day for 3 Braves prospects as Mesa beat Surprise 16-4
Flowers had a career day going 3-4 with 3 Home Runs and 7 RBI’s!!!
Hanson pitched 5 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run, striking out 9 and improved to 4-0 with a 0.76 ERA
Matt Young went 3-5 with 3 runs scored, a double, 2 RBI’s, and an outfield assist.
This was truly a great day for those 3!
Flowers leads the league in HR’s with 10. Hanson leads the league in ERA, Wins, and Strikeouts. Young has a .365 Average and Flowers has a .387.
Also, Flowers name has been thrown into the Peavy deal, but with a day like this, the Braves might consider keeping him, even with B-Mac behind the plate.
